# The Abgalis Engine

The Abgalis Engine is the cross-domain risk model that sits beneath the Abgalis platform. It represents an economy, a market or a firm as a network of the **seven Abgalis risk domains** — market, credit, liquidity, insurance, operational, climate & ESG, and strategic & emerging — and models how a shock in one domain transmits into the others. It is the engine that powers the Abgalis platform, the Abgalis papers on cross-domain transmission, and the **Abgalis Cascading Risk Index**.

The Engine is a **patent-pending, proprietary systemic-risk methodology** — the subject of a filed patent portfolio and independent academic review. It is Abgalis's own intellectual property; its internal mathematics, calibration and parameters are proprietary and are not disclosed.

## Internal components

The Abgalis Engine is composed of named internal components. These are engineering codenames for the Engine's subsystems, not separately marketed products.

### Apkallu — the propagation model

**Apkallu** is the Engine's cross-domain propagation model: the component that traces how a disturbance moves across the seven-domain network and quantifies its cascade path. The name follows the Abgalis lineage — in Mesopotamian tradition the *apkallu* were the seven sages, mirroring the seven risk domains the model spans.

### Enki — the forecasting layer

**Enki** is the Engine's forward-looking layer: the component that projects how cross-domain risk evolves under scenarios and stresses. In Mesopotamian tradition Enki was the god of wisdom and the patron of the apkallu — the source the sages drew on — which is the relationship the forecasting layer holds to the propagation model.

## Provenance

The Abgalis Engine, the Apkallu propagation model and the Enki forecasting layer are internal components of the Abgalis platform, developed by Abgalis Research; the underlying methodology is patent-pending. They are research and analytics tooling; Abgalis Limited is a risk data and analytics provider and not an authorised or regulated firm, and accountability for any regulatory use of the outputs rests with the firm's own risk and actuarial functions.
